TUPELO | Depraved Heart Murder: The Tupelo Presleys, an eight-episode podcast telling the intriguing story of the 2001 death of Harold Ray Presley, the slain sheriff of Lee County in Northeast Mississippi who was also a cousin of Elvis and the beloved uncle of recent Mississippi Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Brandon Presley, is dropping February 14, 2024. The series, which can be heard on the YouTube Channel, describes the tragic events that touched the sheriff’s family in the months following his mysterious death.
Actor / Writer Christy McBrayer, a fellow Tupelo (Saltillo) native, hosts the podcast laying out the amazing narrative with roots tracing back to the King of Rock- n- Roll, Elvis Presley. After eight years of research and twenty- year fascination with the events, McBrayer has conducted interviews with Sheriff Presley’s family, friends, colleagues, law enforcement on the scene and legal experts, along with sharing of personal letters obtained from Sheriff Presley’s wife, Charlene Presley.
“It is about time the world hears our story,” Charlene Presley said. “I never trusted anyone who approached me until Christy (McBrayer) did and one of the reasons was because she is originally from here and understands what it can be like.”
McBrayer worked with the family for years traveling back to her Northeast Mississippi hometown from Los Angeles and Austin, TX until she decided to take residence to work full-time with producer, Melinda Marsalis of Sun Bear Studios in Ripley, Mississippi in collaboration with her production company, Southern Fried Chickie Productions, LLC.
