Baldwyn School District board members agreed Saturday morning to extend spring break another week to help students and teachers avoid possible exposure in a group setting to COVID-19.

“Baldwyn School District board members and administration will continue to put the health and safety of our students and staff first,” Superintendent Jason McKay said in a statement Saturday morning. “While continuing to monitor the COVID-19 virus outbreak and adhering to medical advisements, our school district will remain closed for March 16-20. There will be no athletic practices or games also. Administration and board members will reassess the situation in a week.”

Baldwyn joins a list of several other schools in the area to remain closed next week. Previously, officials with Northeast Mississippi Community College announced spring break will be extended through March 23, with all classes then resuming online for the remainder of the semester.

Itawamba Community College will remain closed for spring break through March 23 and determine its plans going forward at a later time.
