Hunter Newman was indicted this week in the death of Dalen Thomas, who was struck and killed by Newman while crossing the road to get to his school bus on Oct. 31, 2018 in the Pratts Community.
The Lee County Grand Jury issued the indictment on Thursday. In the two count indictment, the jury found that Newman “did feloniously cause injury to a child, Dalen Thomas, who was in the process of boarding a school bus . . . (by) willfully, intentionally, and unlawfully, while driving upon Hwy 370, fail to stop at least ten (10) feet from the school bus before reaching the bus where there was in operation on the school bus the flashing red lights provided in Section 63-7-23 of the Mississippi Code.”
The case will now be sent over for trial at a date yet to be determined.
Newman, 22, of Marietta, was charged with culpable negligence manslaughter in the incident.
