Fighting hunger and every day neccessities for others are goals Southern Diversified Inc. is making a priority.
BALDWYN – Southern Diversified Industries in Baldwyn recently installed a Blessing Box at its location on Second Street. The box was unveiled as part of the company’s recent Great Gratitude Tour.
The box is located at the entrance of the front parking lot, adjacent to the street. The primary purpose is to provide a source of food and/or toiletries to individuals or families who may need temporary assistance.
“It was something that we as a company wanted to do to help our community as part of our year long celebration for our parent company’s 100th year anniversary,” Human Resource Manager Van Hoots said.
Food is contributed from donations by the employees of SDI. Outside contributions and donations from individuals are accepted as well. Donations can be dropped off at the SDI front office during normal business hours, which are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The box was hand-built by SDI plant manager, Terry Russell. During the short time the box has been in existence it has been very well received.
“The Blessing Box is important to the community as it is simply a way for the company and our employees to give back to a community that has been very good to SDI,” Hoots said.
