Walnut 10, Baldwyn 0
After taking the previous game against Walnut 14-7, Baldwyn lost its first game of the season in a rematch on March 9. The Bearcats fell behind early, giving up five runs in the second inning and four in the third. The Walnut defense held Baldwyn to just three hits on 18 at-bats.
Baldwyn 7, Myrtle 4
Baldwyn rebounded from its loss to Walnut with a 7-4 win over visiting Myrtle on March 10. After the Hawks took a two-run lead in the top of the first, Baldwyn answered with six runs in the bottom of the same inning. Myrtle tightened things up with two more runs in the third inning, but Baldwyn was able to pick up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning and then held on for the win. Braxton Nabors picked up two hits on the day, with Nabors, Connor Hendrix, Riley Hoard, Andy Trollinger, Jordan Eldridge, Bailey Raines, and Jesse Barker each picking up a run. Lawson Gamble had one hit, but he made the most of it as he drove three batters across home plate in the process.
Baldwyn 5, Biggersville 2
A trio of pitchers for Baldwyn only gave up two runs on two hits against the Lions as Baldwyn scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-2 win in tournament action on Monday, March 12. Blaine Martin had two strikeouts in the effort, while Andy Trollinger had one. Biggersville allowed several walks on the day, giving Baldwyn an opportunity to drive five players across base on just five hits with three RBIs. Lawson Gamble, John Swinney and Martin each had an RBI in the game, with Riley Hoard, Payton Wood, Jordan Eldridge, Martin and Swinney each crossing home plate.
Baldwyn’s next game is Friday, March 16 at Booneville at 7 p.m. The Bearcats then host Pine Grove on Saturday, March 17 at 1 p.m. before traveling to New Site for a district matchup on March 20 at 6 p.m.
Biggersville 14, Wheeler 1
In a season truncated by a very successful basketball season, Wheeler has yet to find a win on the diamond. The Eagles gave up eight runs in the fifth inning to cap a 14-1 loss to district foe Biggersville.
New Site 2, Wheeler 0
Wheeler fell to 0-3 on the season with a loss on Monday, March 12 against the New Site Royals.
The Eagles are off until Tuesday, March 20, when they host Thrasher at 5 p.m. They then travel to Thrasher for a rematch on Fri., March 23 at 6:30 p.m. before hosting Baldwyn on March 24 at 4 p.m.
