The holidays have arrived in Baldwyn, and the city’s annual Christmas Open House kicked off the season with a wintry wonderland.

Business owners called last weekend’s event a huge success. As shoppers strolled down Main Street, they were greeted with Christmas music and the sight of “snow” falling softly. Children were laughing and playing as the snow fell on their happy faces. Families visited Baldwyn’s quaint little boutiques and gift shops where they purchased gifts for friends and family.

“I loved the festive atmosphere, the beautiful decorations in all the windows and shops, and especially the smiles and friendliness of everyone enjoying the event.” said shopper Charlotte Davis.

It is the local shoppers and small businesses that are the key to a vibrant, successful downtown and shopping district, and Baldwyn is blessed to have both of those. Stores were stocked with new merchandise, decorated beautifully and provided refreshments to their customers on Thursday night. Shoppers enjoyed free gift wrapping, big discounts and were able to register for door prizes.

Santa made a visit to Baldwyn, for the evening, posing for photos with children inside Blue August. Children and families enjoyed hot cocoa during the photo shoot. Many people took a ride on the Christmas sleigh as shoppers listened to the clip clop of the horse as he pulled a sleigh full of happy people.

“Christmas Open House keeps getting better every year,” said Baldwyn Main Street Director Lori Tucker. “Our local retailers were blessed with lots of sales and shoppers were able to get a lot of their Christmas shopping done while they enjoyed Open House.”

“We had a lot of customers shopping with us last weekend,” said Susan Barker, owner of Xtreme Tan and Southern Charm. “It’s good to see local shoppers as well as people from other cities come to experience all Baldwyn has to offer.”
