On Sunday afternoon, July 2, Prentiss County Deputies responded to a Burglary in Progress at a home on CR 7422, near the Booneville-Baldwyn Airport. The suspect had kicked the front door in and during the course of events the resident had hid in the closet, was eventually located by the suspect and was held against her will until she managed to escape. She was located running down the road when the first deputy arrived. The suspect, Marcus Dontae Nichols, 25, of Plantersville, was arrested by Deputies Jeremy Pace, Phillip Owens and Brian Taylor in the area after he fled on foot. Nichols and the victim had at one time been in a relationship. Nichols was charged with Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Kidnapping. His bond was set at $50,000. Several other agencies had active warrants on Nichols and holds have been placed on him for those departments. He remains in custody. Investigator Roy Ragin is handling the case.
Checkpoints lead to drug arrests
On Saturday, July 1, Deputy Tyler Reese arrested Jeremy A. Buchanan, 24, after being stopped at a safety checkpoint on Hwy. 30. He was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and his bond was set at $5,000. Narcotics Investigator Joey Clark, along with North Miss. Narcotics Unit, is working the case.
Also on July 1, Deputy Taylor Walker arrested Margaret Oakley, 41, of Booneville, at a safety checkpoint on Hwy. 30 and charged her with Possession of Methamphetamine. Her bond was set at $5,000. Narcotics Agent Joey Clark and North Mississippi Narcotics is working the case.
Other department activity
On Tuesday evening, June 27, Prentiss County Narcotics Investigator Joey Clark and Deputy Rusty Burroughs arrested Micheal Paul Pounds, 37, of New Site, on CR 4181 and discovered approximately four ounces of crystal methamphetamine. He was charged with No Seatbelt, Failure to Comply, Resisting Arrest and Felony Trafficking of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine). His bond was set at $75,000 on the felony charge and was released on bond on July 1st. The investigation continues.
