A Baldwyn woman was injured in the mid-day collision of her SUV and a tractor trailer on Hwy. 45 South.
Baldwyn Police officers were the first to respond to the accident near Hancock Fabrics on Hwy. 45. Authorities believe the woman’s vehicle hit the truck from behind and became lodged underneath the trailer, leaving a trail of marks and debris on the highway for approximately 250 to 300 feet. The driver of the vehicle was injured but able to speak with first responders and paramedics at the scene. The force of the collision led rescuers to remove both driver-side doors of the late model Ford Edge in an effort to remove the driver from the wreckage.
It took authorities about 45 minutes to remove the driver of the SUV. The Baldwyn News has learned the name of the SUV driver, but is withholding it at this time out of sensitivity to family and friends. The only other passenger in the SUV was a dog, who was removed and taken to a nearby veterinarian’s office.
The truck is registered to a company in Florida, and was hauling produce. The driver of the truck was visibly shaken by the accident but not injured.
The accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol. More details on the accident can be read in Thursday’s print edition of The Baldwyn News.
