BHS to honor veterans and families

All veterans, families of veterans, and active duty personnel are invited by the Baldwyn High School Interact Club to be honored in observance of the upcoming Veterans’ Day holiday.

Interact Club members, along with the BHS Chorus, will hold the Veterans’ Day service on November 11 at 11 a.m. at the BHS auditorium. For almost two decades BHS has paid tribute by presenting patriotic musical selections, historical readings, a pinning ceremony, and a slide show.

At this time anyone who has photos of their beloved veterans and active duty personnel can submit a photo for the program’s slide show.  Information including name, branch of service, years of service, war participation, and medals will also be needed for the slide show. Deadline for this year’s slide show participation will be Wednesday, November 6 at 3 p.m.

“The slide show is such a special moment for all in attendance. Everyone knows someone that is on the slide show, and we feel honored to salute them for their service to our country,” Interact vice-president Jonathan Hancock said.

Another aspect of the BHS tribute to local veterans is the memorial wall located on the north end of the high school buildings. Bricks can be purchased for $25 in honor and in memory of veterans and active duty personnel. The brick includes the honoree’s name and branch of service only.

“Each of these tributes are only a small endeavor of how we can say thank you to the men and women who have fought and are fighting for our freedoms,” Interact president Mac Trollinger said.
